COS's BFF

Not as in best friends forever, but as in Bicycle Film Festival! Today, Yeti and I were invited to get involved in possibly bringing the Bicycle Film Fest (or BFF) to Colorado Springs and other cities in Colorado! Hosted by John Crandall of Old Town Bike Shop and John Weiss of the Colorado Springs Independent,  we were treated to many amazing film shorts, including one that has yet to make it's world debut.

Even though the screening was small and private, the room was filled with a lot of laughter, smiles, and applause from the crowd. I have no doubt after seeing the crowds for other documentary events in the Springs, that the BFF would draw as many, if not more people out for the event.

The BFF was created by Brendt Barbur in NYC. After being hit by a bus on his bicycle, he decided to turn the negative event into a positive one by promoting art, music and film all related to bicycles. Now in it's 11th year, the BFF is hosted in a variety of cities from Amsterdam to Austin, New York to Paris. With the help of the Colorado Springs community (cyclists and non-cyclists as well), there is the possibility of bringing it here.

One major goal of the BFF is to coordinate efforts with groups helping to host the USA Pro Cycling Challenge that will be rolling through town on Friday, August 24th. With such successful events such as the People's Pedal Party and the various ancillary events surrounding last year's Pro Challenge, this should be a quick and easy fit!

Another goal is FUN! The festival is a culmination of 5 days of events from concerts to art shows, VIP receptions, dance parties and of course, the movies! Even if your not a cyclist, this event promises to deliver a good time! Colorado Springs has quite the underground cycling community and we hope that cycling enthusiasts will use this opportunity to rise and create a critical mass in the area!
