Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2012 Day 1

After blasting through the first day of the "Big Show" my head is spinning from not only the whirlwind of lights, sounds, and motion but also from the myriad of new gear that caught my eye. While this is only a very, very small representation of what we learned about today, these were definitely products that stood out!

First up was the "Over The Rope" approach shoe from Italian shoe maker Crispi. Mark my word folks, this shoe is going to make a huge impact on the design of approach shoes. I have never before seen a shoe that has am such of a toe shelf as this one. Essentially the tip of the toe is flattened and mimics a down turned technical rock shoe. While these bad boys don't come out until Spring of '13 we're going to try and hook up a pair soon to see if this is all hype or if this will be leading the way towards making a, dare I say it, a truly technical approach shoe.

Next up on the list is the true car camping delight boasting an amazing 90 square feet of vestibule space! This either 2 or 4 person base camp is not light at almost 30lbs but this is luxury camping at it's finest. Trust me when I say that Mirage from Sierra Designs is one base camp/car camping tent that we will be stoked to take on some trips!

Finally, we come to the watch that Suunto is convinced may very well be the last watch you'll ever buy. The Suunto Ambit is a dialed machine featuring 3D compass and GPS tracking tech and the ability to be upgraded as newer technology is released. By utilizing their already popular Movescount software or any of the other fitness tracking software offerings this watch can track all of your training and adventures giving feedback on every stroke, step, or crank rotation you make.

We'll be bringing you more tomorrow and try and expand a bit more as we crank through the ridiculous number of products that are showcased in this gear crazed outdoor adventure trade show!
