Fair point. And honestly, they can try to close them down in wet weather all the want, but there will be people who go anyway. They either need to build them and accept possible wet weather consequences, or not build them at all, as it doesn't seem like it'd really be something they could enforce really well (unless they're just going to station a ranger there on those days, which I highly doubt). And of course, I wouldn't be against connecting to RTP... :)
I don't know Fonk, I'm kind of against them adding the entire 5.2 miles of trails, especially if they are thinking of closing them during wet weather. I've never heard of such a thing. Maybe if someone has, they can tell me what trails "close down during wet weather". Also, I think money could be better spent connecting the CMSP trails to Ring the Peak and Muller.
can you tell me how windproof is this jacket since it's so breathable? I need the jacket in which I won't sweat but which will protect me from cold autumn and winter winds.
Your argument seems to be not with adding trails to the state park, but simply with adding no-bike trails to the park. As a fellow cyclist, I understand your frustration. However, I'm also a hiker and don't want to shoot myself in the foot (that really makes hiking hard ;-P). I'm all for them putting the trail to the top in; and hopefully, over time, we can convince them to open up the trail to bikes, too. If not, though, then I'll simply enjoy it on foot.
thanks so much this really helped. I have teens and they do not want to put on big coats but i want them to be warm these look and sound great will be getting them.
Thanks for your comment from the UK Colin! We have also tried various brands but seem to come back to BP as well. I agree with the packaging, a little excessive! Adventure On! ~MtnMama
I have to say that Backpackers Pantry dehydrated meals are, without doubt, the best tasting backpacking meals I have ever tried. Although for food-regulation reasons, we here in the UK were only ever allowed to buy the veggie ones and now even these are not available to us. I have been in touch with BP and they are hoping to start supplies to the UK in the future. In lieu of these products I have tried various well known brands but most seem, irrespective of the the meal selected, to have a common, rather unpleasant undertaste whereas BP products always seemed fresh and scrummy. Very generous portions for this hungry solo backpacker, but please, please do away with the oversized packaging (as with most of the dehydrated brands). It does nothing for me and even less for the environment....!
I use my Stanley's for work and play . I use the ol school green for the job 1 for hot 1 for cold water . Then the weekend adventure starts camping, backpacking , fishing ,tailgating , and parting (mixing margaritas ) .These bottles are very versatile and come with a lifetime warranty .
Excellent article that has me thirsting for and remembering the superb rauchier I consumed during my US Army tour in Bamberg, Germany back in the late 70's. Bamberg was (is) known for it's rauchbier and I sampled plenty. I always liked how it tasted and smelled like pork chops and gave a great buzz. I'm keen to fish out my passport and hop on a bird to down a few liters!
I just bought the Women’s Mighty Lite™ Hooded Jacket and I'm very concerned that it won't hold up to a Canadian winter. It's so thin. Should I be worried?
Well said Fonk, and I guess I never gave the cats a thought when it comes to elk kills. I was thinking more about grizzly bears. But as I am researching via the interwebs I just found a study saying that a mtn lion killed as many as 18 moose in a year! And in Billings MT there are reports of a mtn lion killing at least 2 wolves this year!!
Wouldn't the wolves be that second alpha predator, though? We already have mountain lions there, so wolves would be the second major predator, not the first. As such, there's your effective population control (per that theory)...
I say bring 'em back, as they naturally belong here. There were lots of wolves here before we killed them off. But yes, like you said, do so slowly. Besides letting the ecosystem find natural balance, a slower introduction is also needed to give time to educate people and get them over the irrational fear that's been drilled into them over decades.
Thanks Fred! It is a very good ride and I can't believe folks can come up from Manitou! But now that I've done the Peak...I've got a little more courage to attempt something like HWY 24 or other challenging road rides. It's fun! The way things are going, I'm sure they'll open it up next year...300 folks in the first week! WOW!
Laura, I'm an active person but it's active as in I'm constantly doing something or going somewhere. Unfortunately, I'm not as active as I'd like to be with working out right now. :( As far as cycling goes, I just started riding a bike consistently last summer and this summer, I ride it every other day to work and for fun. The farthest I've gone by bike until now is the Joy Ride! Haha Thanks for the encouragement!
Good Work Randi,I think it is the best ride in town!!!! The ride from Manitou is HARD!! But worth it. I sure hope they open it all the time next year? Thanks for Sharing your trip.

Hello =)

thank you

I'm more into porters than IPAs, but I'd like to give it a try. Is Happy Camper sold anywhere in the Denver area? Cheers!
Nice Tina! Hope they enjoy them! We did!

A very cool idea. We need to educate our kids to stay hydrated and if it means gimmicks then so be it. I think its a great idea.
Mike, seems to be going on until Nov. 18th so you might want to hurry! I didn't notice anything about low income discounts :( ~MtnMama

Hello,
Do you know if this program is still going on, and can you get a discount on the tickets if you are low income?

It sounds like the best use for it is "casual" so it might not hold up so well in the elements.

That is wonderful! Personally, I would avoid Ute Pass, though! I don't trust drivers enough to risk that one!
