3rd Sunday Adventure- Rampart Res

Main Image:

Event Description:

The 3rd Sunday of every month we will lead an adventure day in and around Colorado Springs, CO. The events are for all ages and experience levels and are a great way to get to know the natural world around us. With a wide array of possibilities ranging from mountain bike rides, ski trips, snowshoeing, hiking, climbing, or photography hikes you are sure to have a blast as you meet new folks and learn some basic skills and celebrate our region's breathtaking offerings.

JUNE's Adventure is RAMPART RESERVOIR:

Rampart Reservoir has opened to all for a bit of exploring! As you all know this area has been closed due to our area's worst fire, the Waldo Canyon fire. Please join us as we poke around the trail and enjoy some of this beautiful area. You must get to the reservoir from Woodland Park and we will meet at 9am at the trailhead just north of the main entrance.

Directions: Take Hwy 24 west from Colorado Springs. Turn right at the McDonalds on Baldwin Rd in Woodland Park (This is a stoplight and the road “Y”s off to the right). This becomes Rampart Range Road (FSR 300). Follow the signs to Rampart Reservoir. The trailhead is well marked, approximately 6 miles after you turn off Hwy 24. Rainbow Gulch Trail is #714; Rampart Reservoir Trail is #700.

Plan on a mellow hike totaling about 5 miles. We will walk the wide path to 1.5 miles to the west end of the res and then continue down the trail playing in the trees and on the shore of this amazing reservoir. Bring plenty of water and snacks, sunscreen is highly recommended.

Dogs are allowed as long as they are leased and well behaved.

If your dog "gets crazy" we will ask you to separate from the greater group.

Remember weather in the Rockies changes quickly and be prepared for inclement weather, there is no such thing as poor weather, just poor clothing choices!

Check back often to find out where we will be heading each and every month. With trail conditions, weather, and access always changing we like to keep things fresh and wait until a few weeks before the next adventure day to make a call on where we will be heading and what the adventure of the day will be.
