Adventure On Film Is Amazing

One of the great things about being based in Colorado and having an office in a gear shop is that I run into all kinds of like minded folks. Almost daily I will have conversations with folks about just getting outdoors, or hear amazing stories of where they've gone or what amazing adventures folks have been on. In fact I have heard stories of amazing first ascents on Denali, through hikes of long trails, 8000 meter ascents, amazing harrowing tales of survival and bat shit crazy white water adventures. The thing that amazes me the most is how people light up as they tell their tales and we learn more about what they have done. The way folks eyes light up, they get goose bumps and start bouncing around as they relive their adventures is amazing. The memories of these tales that I've heard I really wish I could have cataloged and shared with others, but as memory fades or these adventurers go about their lives the stories can fade away.

Recently I ran into a unassuming guy named Barry that was checking out some sweet AT skis and prepping for a few alpine trips. I asked him about his plans and what he was thinking about doing and then it started to flow, but this took a different turn. You see, Barry is the lead at Outside Adventure Media, a small video production outfit that will soon be finding a home in Basalt, CO. The thing about Barry is that he is no slouch, he is a guy that has chops when it comes to video work. And what hit me about this is that video is amazing, the ability to capture all of those things that I have seen and heard last a lifetime. Now some of you are no doubt saying "welcome to the 21st century Yeti" and yeah I am a little slow on the uptake. But honestly watching some of Barry's work is what made me lock in on the reality that capturing your adventures on film, video, or in writing is key and working with a professional can really help capture all of the raw emotion that comes from your adventures. This medium allows others to follow in your footsteps and live your adventure with you.

So check out this short intro that Barry did with some great folks over at Ouray Ice park.
