Summer is here, and if you’re like most of us, it means you are outside even more. On the water, hiking in the mountains, on your bike, or even just out for a run in your neighborhood. But all those activities need eye protection.
I got to try some CEBE Wild sunglasses, the specific model was CDWILD3.
Interchangeable lenses. It came with three pairs of lenses: the CB1500 grey (which is actually an amber mirrored), yellow, and clear. These are red for strong light conditions. The clear and yellow lenses are ‘Cat 0’, and are better in lower light when you just need a little eye protection.
Per the user guide, the lenses are rated as class 1 personal protective equipment, but the lenses are not to be considered “indestructible by impact.”
Ease of lens change: Overall this was pretty straight forward. Just pull the current lens away from the frame and it pops out. How I used them: I live in Colorado Springs and spend a lot of time on my bike and running while training for triathlons. These glasses got a lot of use on rides and runs in both bright and cloudy conditions.
Let's go through the features:
Ultra-light frame: These frames are indeed ultra light. You barely know they are on! The only problem with them being so light and flexible is that they are hard to put on with one hand. While usually that’s not a problem, sometimes it’s convenient to be able to do.
Anti-fog vented lenses. I have to say these did fog up a little on me. When I put in more intense efforts, I must make funny faces that cause my cheeks to hit the bottom of the lens, so they would fog a bit. Not enough to get in the way of safety, just noticeable. Some force is needed to put the new lens in, but it snaps in just fine. I used the cleaning cloth that it came with to hold the lenses when swapping them out.
Adjustable and anti-slip rubber nose pad. Spot on with this feature. It’s adjustable and didn’t slip. Very comfortable.
Optical clip: N/A
Other worthy notes. The sunglasses came in a nice semi-soft storage case that holds the glasses and the extra lenses conveniently. There was also a cloth to use to wipe down the lenses.
While the CEBE website doesn’t list any US distributors or shops, there are shops and distributors in Europe, Asia, and other locations. With some help from google I found this model on SmartBuyGlasses.com for $62.99 with an MSRP of $85. OpticsPlanet.com had them for $41.99. That’s a very affordable option for comfortable sport sunglasses!
