For a few years now Big B’s has been making great organic juices from their very own orchards based in Hotchkiss, CO and just recently they have thrown their hat into he ring with a line of hard Ciders. The first one I noticed at the local liquor depot was a 4 pack of 16oz cans of their Cherry Daze. USDA rated organic, locally sourced Montmorency Cherries give this apple cider a nice albeit slightly acidic temperament that blends well into the sweetness of the apples. The tartness of the cherries adds a nice balance and really brings the fully monty forward as you enjoy this rose colored cider.
Once you crack the can the cider pours with minimal head and a slight aroma of mildly sweet tart that is hard to distinguish between whether it is really from the fruit or if there is something more added (which there is not!). In these days of artificial sweeteners and false favors Big B’s brings fresh life and new hope to quality ingredients and a great quality product.
While I am not usually one for the ciders, this was a nice change of pace from wheat and barley, and I have to admit it was refreshing to have such clean crisp treat after a great weekend. And from a look at their website it appears they are looking to expand their offering quite a bit in the coming months. So whether you are a fan of ciders or not, I recommend giving Big B’s a try and let us know what you think.
