There are a few key pieces of gear that are essential when backpacking, with its namesake the "backpack" being the most important. A good pack is one of those pieces of gear that can make your trip great, or can make it a miserable experience you'll soon wish was over. Thankfully for all you weekend warriors, adventure seekers, and thru hikers there is a wide variety of great packs out there. With one of the best being the Deuter Act Zero 50.
The Deuter Act Zero is somewhat of a compact luxury car of backpacks. This pack is designed for comfort with thick, but light in weight fully padded shoulder straps, hip belt, and back panel. Adding to the comfort and functionality of the Act Zero, Deuter developed a 6 piece ergonomic back system consisting of, breathable padding, stabilizer straps, contoured shoulder straps, an anatomic profiled X-frame, Vari-Quick straps, and anatomically shaped hip fins that combine to make carrying this pack an enjoyable experience.
A key for me when buying gear is getting the most bang for your buck. With the Deuter Act Zero being priced at a fair $179 you're getting a lot of functionality with this pack. The 50 + 15 liter carrying capacity is a perfect volume range pack for a multi-day trip or an afternoon hike. Be it smooth traveling down a nice trail, or rough scrambling through boulder fields, the pack stays true to a comfortable fit and doesn't shift from side to side. Best of all nothing about this pack limits your range of motion or mobility.
