For the last few years Gerber Gear has been dialing out some great daily carry products. As of new they are continuing the charge with the recent release of the GDC Money Clip.

The GDC (Gerber Daily Carry) Money Clip is a quick and easy alternative to the wallet, just as any other money clip. This one however, conveniently houses a small blade that’s great for use on smaller day to day tasks. The clip carries slim and flat in the pocket with a strong clasp which is capable of securely holding a few cards along with some cash. If you are trying to carry much more than that though, you might run into some hang ups with the allotted space. The more you widen the load the harder the access becomes to your belongings as the resistance greatens. I guess that’s a good thing though, and it does give me a piece of mind that I’m not going to be littering the streets with my cash or cards.

Hidden on the reverse side from the clip is a convenient little 1.7″ stainless steel blade. The blade is self contained in a reinforced sheath that is held in place with a locking aluminum clasp button housed through the knife’s hilt finger ring located on the top of the money clip. Much like the safe holding of your personal contents, the more you load the GDC with the harder the blade becomes to access. If you are carrying too many items you will know because, you’ll likely need to pull a few cards out before you are able to access the blade without resistance. The thick carry of personal items doesn’t allow sufficient room for the release clasp to properly depress to eject the blade. As for the knife itself it has a decent blade to it that makes great for tackling smaller day to day tasks.

Overall I think the GDC is a pretty convenient piece to have for the every day carry collection. It’s light weight, easy to carry, quick and easy to access (as long as you aren’t overloading it). I would not recommend the GDC as an alternative by any means to a good knife. However, with that being said, using it as it is intended to be a daily carry, this is an excellent piece to have and could really come in handy in a pinch.
