Goal Zero is an innovative company leading the charge (no pun intended) in portable solar power! Goal Zero provides power packs, and power kits that can fully recharge or power, a wide variety of USB, AC, and DC devices. Goal Zero also offers a pretty sweet line of products and accessories to go along with their full solar energy systems and power packs.
One of their many products that has found a home amongst my inventory of gear is the Solo Flashlight. This light weight flashlight is extremely durable and makes for a great hand held back up, or a perfect addition to any emergency kit. The middle of its 5" machined aluminum body is lined with a 12 W solar panel that can be recharged under artificial lighting (indoor) or by means of sun light. It has a running life of two hours and needs 8 hours of light exposure to be fully recharged. Extreme temperatures will effect its operation. Optimal temperatures for operation range from 32°-104°F (0°-40°C).
I picked up the Solo Flashlight as a secondary source of illumination for backpacking trips, were it can be found securely fastened to the outside of my pack soaking up the rays of the sun. When I'm not on an adventure the Solo Flashlight conveniently lives on my bedroom windowsill. I have it sitting with the solar panel facing outwards sun bathing all day, keeping it charged and always ready to go.
For the low price of $12.99 I doubt you will find a solar power rechargeable light of this quality. Be warned though at this low cost you'll find the Solo Flashlight to be a gateway piece luring you into the rest of GOAL ZERO's addictive line of products.
