The Fifty-Two 80 is the big daddy pack from the Mile High Mountaineering line. This 80+ liter beast is the ideal pack for long excursions and heavy loads. This is a serious backpack made for serious backpackers. Would-be backpackers and weekend warriors might not be to concerned with this pack, but if you're heading our for a thru hike or a multi-day trip this is a pack you'll want to seriously consider.
Like the entire line up of MHM packs the Fifty-Two 80 is a great looking pack that brings a lot style to the trail. You might like it for its large load carrying capacity and sexy looks, but beauty is only skin deep and you're going to really fall in love with it for what's underneath. A couple of those features you are going to love are the sYncc A.C. Suspension and variCant dualpivoting fully adjustable hipbelt. They make carrying this pack fully loaded feel like a walk in the park!
As mentioned previously in the MHM Flatiron post:
"The pivoting hip belt combined with the adjustable harness creates a total package suspension system. It allows you to experience carrying weight on your back in an ergonomic nonrestrictive fashion that helps you hike freely with a full range of motion while carrying heavy loads. This means comfortable hiking, and comfortable hiking means hiking further." Being that you'll be carrying a much larger and heavier load while using this pack that statement applies ten fold!

One of my favorite features about this pack is the secondary entry to the main compartment. It's an inverted 'U"shaped zipper that runs along the exterior of the pack, that opens much like a duffle bag or a suit case would. This allows you quick and easy access to the contents in the middle and at the bottom of the pack without having to dump everything out! This feature is also great for rock climbers. The 80 liters is great for carrying tons of rope, while the "U" shape zipper allows complete access to the rope as the pack itself protects the precious cargo from the unforgiving terrain underneath. This is not what it was intended for, but it doubles great as a rope bag.
Another great feature on this pack is Quick Stuff Pack Sac. This separate side entry compartment located at the bottom of the pack is made for separate storage, compression, and quick access to your sleeping bag. This little bonus allows you to ditch your stuff sack, keep your bag separate from the rest of your gear, opens up more room in your main compartment for other gear, and of course makes your sleeping bag readily available. Not to mention how easy it is to pack when you're in a hurry.
All MHM packs are designed to comfortably fit both men and women. I just finished adjusting the packs torso length from 22" down to 17". The UpaDowna ladies will be taking their turn at testing this pack to its full potential this weekend. Hopefully the women find this pack to be just as comfortable, reliable, and nonrestrictive on their go around as I did. A great pack that can either be his or hers? We'll soon see.
