The 2013 Pearl Izumi Launch gloves are a great lightweight highly breathable glove that is designed to provide protection without the bulk. The 2013 version is a different beast than the 2012 version featuring less bulk and a a more dialed glove design. This snug fitting glove is a great all around glove for both urban commuters or single track fiends. The 1:1 fit means the glove is snug with no padding and only minimal silicone tip pads for tacky braking.

The new Launch is definitely a pared down version of the old and I assume the shift in design is to dial in the glove that those pounding the singletrack can rely on to not bunch or become uncomfortable after long hours on the bike. As I mentioned the newer version does not have padding and only a minimal wiping surface for blood, sweat, or tears which is great for the dialed minimalist. The durability of the design is key and even on a few sketchy bails the gloves held up well to my palms sliding down on talus slopes and granite washes. While you may not realize it yet, having a light weight breathable glove is a lifesaver on hot summer days of hammering trails. Now these gloves do not breath as well as a mesh short fingered glove, but to be honest regardless of season and temps I usually roll full fingered so I am used to the slight heat.

The days of sweaty hands and the contemplation of whether or not to ride with gloves are long gone. The 2013 Launch is a great glove for those that want a fully functional dialed and comfortable glove with out the bulk.
