PI is known for some great shoes and they have continued the legacy with these all around trail runners. Combining superb comfort and fit with great support and excellent tread these shoes were a great fit for me on the trail.
When I first slid my feet into the shoes I thought for sure that I would be tripping over the soles. I have not completely committed to the minimalist thing yet and if I had I think I would have no doubt be concerned about the amount of padding these trail shoes have. Geared towards longer trail days on varying terrain the synchroFuel Trail II does a fine job of protecting feet and ankles with an almost too smooth ride.
Once I got moving in these shoes I felt like I could go anywhere there was none of the normal (for me) discovering the new shoe by kicking and scuffing my way up and down the trail. I felt these mid weight trail runners soaked up the rocks and roots on my runs and to be honest they felt kinda like an atv especially with the amazing grip the soles had on the decomposing granite and slick sand stone our trails are comprised of.
Nothing was stopping me and because they are a beefy shoe (just under 12oz for the men's 11) and at no time did I feel that I was being held back by anything other than my cardiovascular conditioning. I loved the way this shoe was built for a variety of terrain and was supportive enough to also be used as a day hiker. The weight and amply padded sole really helped over longer treks/runs which made it possible for days on the trail to get longer and longer simply because my body was not feeling every impact. The shoe fit was true to size and the adequately beefy tread allows grip on a variety of mediums with out fear of slip or lack of response.
Whether you are looking for a daily trail runner or race shoe you might want to look at these as an option.
