Being an adventurous woman, my wedding ring of 12 years has taken quite the beating. Mind you, it cost us a minimal amount, we didn’t need to take out a loan to afford it or anything crazy like that. However, it was a well though out purchase and a ring that I truly love the look of. That being said, it doesn’t make many trips to the outdoors with me. Even though it seems like many of the tiny diamonds have been lost because the enclosure got caught on a sweater and not lost while mountain biking…I still didn’t want to risk it. Enter QALO. Pronounced “KAY-LOW”, these silicone rings represent Quality, Athletics, Love, (and my personal favorite) the Outdoors. Their mission is to “inspire people to improve their quality of life by committing to love selflessly, live athletically, and play outdoors constantly”..which is something I can get behind!

Photo Aug 24, 9 46 36 PMHonestly, at first, I couldn’t see myself wearing a “plastic” ring. I thought that it would annoy me and be so cheap that it would not stand the test of time (and the rigorous wear and tear my other ring had gone through). After the second round of lost diamonds in my wedding ring though, I thought it was time to invest in other options. Both my husband and I bought a few colors and styles of rings. Sometimes, the color you want is not in the category you choose ie: one of my colors was not in the “outdoors” section, but the ring is still great for the outdoors. If you choose the “Quality” rings, they come with a “Qx2” material that is 10 times more resistant to gas, oil, and solvents. Either way, these rings are BOMBER and I have used them in every stage of my day from washing my hands/face with soap to applying lotion, rubbing in sunscreen to paddling on my SUP board, these rings have seen it all. Sometimes, I don’t even take them off because they are so comfortable, I forget they are there! However I will say that my glow in the dark ring is a bit creepy, seeing it float through the air on my hand in the dark of night, so that one comes off. Ha! They do wear out a bit after awhile, becoming softer and a little more stretched out than the original feel.  4-Photo Aug 18, 11 26 49 AM

The QALO rings come in a great little storage pouch, which, I have tons of now since we’ve collected so many colors…I’m trying to find creative ways to reuse them, such as jewelry bags, earbud holders, or as change purses! The option to buy triple packs of rings is also great because then I can mix and match with my outfits, or even wear a new color every day of the week! They are a bit like mood rings for me as well. The husband knows that if I am sporting the black ring…to proceed with caution. But if my bright green or hot pink ring is on, all is well!! 😉

The average prices are $20-$25 and up to about $45 for packs of 3. There are also special edition rings that benefit charitable causes such as the “Alliance For Lupus Research” and “Barbells for Boobs“. So maybe you get them because you want to rock climb and NOT lose your finger. Or maybe you want to wear your favorite color, or represent a cause that means something to you (remember those yellow LIVESTRONG bracelets? It’s kind of like that, but on your finger!). The only thing I don’t agree with is that QALO describes themselves as “wedding bands” but I think they are so much more than that! They can be friendship rings, promise rings, memory rings, and any other reason you could think of why someone would wear a ring but is NOT married. I have even seen these rings on the hands of many CrossFit folks, and even Olympians! I usually wear two rings, my wedding band and one my grandmother gave me. Both with diamonds but both I am not able to wear during outdoor adventures for fear of ruining them. QALO changes that! Now, can it last 12 years like my original wedding band? Only time will tell! And diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but silicone lasts forever…
