Black I.P.A.
Alaskan Brewing Company's Black IPA is indeed a lone wolf, named after the changing of seasons from a bitter cold winter to a fresh spring, this ale is ready to launch us into warmer months just like the sign of the wolves becoming more active for Alaskans signifies springs emergence. It pours black as sin which makes you mentally think you're about to feast on a robust stout or porter and then at first sip it's rich malt brings you into it's world and then just as you're settling in, BLAMMO you get cold cocked with the citrus burst of an amazing hop profile.
Not only is this a great beer for hop heads but it is also a lesson in not judging a book by it's cover, everything you think about this beer as it pours is inaccurate…in fact I think you should buy some and pour it into a pint, don't tell anyone what it is or where it's from and make them try and guess based purely on color what style it is. They will all be wrong. Next, have them taste it and I am certain their mind will be blown.
Such a good beer I hate the fact that it is a spring seasonal, but it also leaves me eager for their next offering. Three cheers to the folks at Alaskan for this ode to season's change.
