Pisses Me Off

Yeah a rant.

OK, I usually try to hold back on blatant rants but this has come to a head and well, I can't take it any more. I am sick and tired of headphones on the trail. WTF is the deal with folks on the trail sporting headphones?!?!?! I originally thought I would breakdown Barney style all of the reasons why headphones are lame on the trail but I have given way to emotion and so I'll just bitch.

Here is a bit of a scenario: running a great trail, enjoying the speed and energy of full tilt sprinting down singletrack and seeing someone up the trail and giving the courtesy "on your right" or "heads up" only to get no response…gaining on them, again with the courtesy…still nothing. Now as you approach the person, the trail has narrowed and made it impossible to safely pass, so again, now at a walk RIGHT BEHIND the person saying "excuse me"…still nothing. Then having to actually tap them on their oblivious fucking shoulder only to have them shriek like a ninny and probably wet themselves in fear. Seriously drop the headphones. Listen to your Mariah Carey or Vanilla Ice at the house and leave that crap off the trail. It is dangerous!! Having your senses impaired is not safe when in the wild or on the road. People get eaten by mountain lions and hit by cars due to their own damn stupidity and insistence on wearing headphones. Don't adversely impact another persons enjoyment with your idiocy. Be safe and AWARE of your surroundings!! Yeah, I am talking to you!
