Avalanche Danger High This Weekend

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) has issued a special warning concerning a large portion of Colorado’s high country for this weekend. This warning is something all folks that plan on getting out there on the snow this weekend as avalanches have already killed 6 people this year.

Please be sure that you have proper equipment (and know how to use it!!!!!), travel with a buddy, let folks know where you’re going (yeah even if it is that super secret stash). For more info on avalanches check out the National Snow & Ice Data Center which breaks down all aspects of avalanches.

FYI the most catastrophic type of avalanche is called a Dry Slab avalanche which can reach 80mph with in 5 seconds of fracturing. Here in Colorado we have Dry Slab avalanches so be very aware, and if you think you can hot dog it out of one you are dead wrong.

Take this seriously, this is no joke and is something that can and will kill you.
