Belgo

Shazam, KaPOW Oh yeah!!!!! That is all I can do to describe this week's beer of the week(end). I want you all to take notice of the Belgo from New Belgium Brewing's Lips of Faith series. Leave it to a Colorado brewery to meld two of my favorite beers into one, namely Belgian Trappist style ales and a hearty kick in the ass IPA(India Pale Ale). New Belgium Brewing has really nailed this one as it opens with a strong citrus hop and finishes with a beautiful soft fruit finish. Now some folks steer clear of IPAs because they don't care for the high octane IBU blasting that usually graces the style, but with this particular beer the finish calms it down a bit so you really get the feeling you are drinking two distinct beers! This way you can get the best of both worlds, with the higher alcohol content and hoppy goodness that is an IPA as well as a smooth, clean finish. The hoppy intro and smooth finish are due to the beautiful balance of five distinct hop varieties; Cascade, Amarillo, Willamette, Simcoe, Centennial. These varieties are added not only during the boil but also dry hopped for that added pop. All in all this beer sits at a respectable 70 I.B.U.'s and really makes me smile with it's 8% abv. I am fairly new to the Lips of Faith series but I promise more research is already under way! Find any and all New Belgium beers here!!! Another great reason to like this and other New Belgium beers is the great employee's and active environmental focus the company has, hell check out UpaDowna member and New Belgium Beer Ranger Travis cruising around making his rounds on a Yuba Mundo Cargo bike.
