Hoptimum
Usually we get the BOTW ready when were sober Sallies and ready to write…but this week it has been left up to me and well I am most certainly not sober. Fortunately I owe my lack of sobriety to what I am calling one of my proudest beers of the week yet. Hoptimum the 100 IBU wonder child of Sierra Nevada Brewing Company.
I really don't know what to say about this beer. I mean the IBU level should tip you off to the hop blasting this brew holds. And the excellent variety of hops included as well as the different methods of hop infusion should key you off to the awesomeness that is Hoptimum. But just in case you don't know, this beer is blasted with German Magnum bittering hops, it has Simcoe and some other new school secret squirrel "proprietary variety" added for aroma and dry hopping and then Sierra Nevada got crazy and added Citra and Chinook as the torpedo injection! Holy moly that's a hop kaPOW! All of this equals a 10.4% ABV love fest, if you're into that sort of thing…which I am. But to be sure this beer is not lost in the violence of hoppy bite, amazingly enough SN managed to impart some wonderful flavors into this beer as well. Now usually with double or Imperial IPA's folks think citrus flavors, and rightfully so, but this beer also has a strange and subtle sweetness and almost slightly full bodied, dare I say woody flavor?!?! But if that description doesn't do it for you then all I can say is that I have no doubt that this is the beer Chuck Norris no doubt drinks when he's about to kick major ass!
