Late Avalanche

Vail Mountain Rescue Group, Summit County Rescue Group, Alpine Rescue Team, and an Army Blackhawk helicopter, were all on the scene Saturday after two men snowboarding triggered an avalanche on Tenmile Peak, near Breckenridge. One of the the men suffered a lower leg injury, but they were able to use a cell phone to call for rescue.

These men were very fortunate to escape with such a minimal injury. As the temperature warms the snow becomes unstable. If you're going into the back country please be aware of the terrain, and know the signs associated with avalanches. FACT: Colorado is the most dangerous state for avalanche fatalities. Out of all winter sports, snowmobilers have the highest percentage of fatalities related to avalanches. BE SAFE!!!
