Orval
Roses are red, violets are blue…whatever I got beer to drink!
The more I drink Trappist Style Ales, the more I like them. And Orval is no exception! Orval brewery is located across the pond in the Abbey Notre-Dame d’Orval, Villers-devant-Orval, Belgium. An interesting fact about the Orval Abbey is that they’re pioneers when it comes to nutrition. Since the brewery’s beginning beer has always been considered first and foremost for its nourishing properties, and they referred to it as “liquid bread”. Sound familiar? UpaDowna has been preaching about “carb-loading” for years! What can I say, nutrition is important to us. Why else would we take beer with us up the Incline? Something else interesting about Orval making it different from other Trappist Ales, is it’s not brewed by men of the cloth.
Orval’s ABV is an easy going 6.2% and it’s fermented with the tasty strain of wild yeast, known as Brettanomyces. This gives Orval a nice hoppy flavor that goes down smooth. As I unwind tonight I can’t help but think, this relaxing brew was a great way to cap off the weekend.
I almost forgot, happy Valentine’s Day! If your lover has another love known as beer, grab a couple Orval’s as a last minute gift.
Menikmati,
